TanOS 1.5.1

General Availability Release Date: July 2, 2019
End of Life Date: June 30, 2024

Major Features and Improvements

  • Includes BIOS update for Intel MDS Vulnerability on Tanium V2 Appliance hardware
  • Added full support for the Tanium Airgap RPM (ISO on Windows). Allows import of content and air gap manifest, individual Airgap solution bundles, or customer solution bundles.
  • Updated to new June 2019 EULA

Known Issues and Workarounds

  • Avoid performing a clean install of platform 7.3.314.3424 on TanOS 1.5.0
  • Upgrade from TanOS 1.4.0 will terminate with a reboot, without warning. Upgrade for 1.3.4 will pause before reboot.
  • Factory reset can leave the system in an unusable state. It is not recommended to perform Factory reset on a TanOS 1.5.0 or TanOS 1.5.1 appliance. If a factory reset is needed, please contact your TAM

Upgrade Considerations

  • Customers can upgrade from either TanOS 1.3.4 or TanOS 1.4.0. It is required to upgrade to at least TanOS v1.3.4 prior to upgrading to TanOS v1.5.x. Please see http://docs.tanium.com for details on supported upgrade paths
  • TanOS 1.5.x introduces Postgres SSL communication. Therefore, during upgrade, postgres services should NOT be stopped, and postgres MUST be running during upgrade. Customers using a clustered appliance (2 Tanium Server appliances with clustered Tanium Server and database) should upgrade the appliance hosting the primary database first
  • When upgrading a clustered Tanium Server instance, it is required for the tanadmin users public key from the primary cluster member, to be added to the tancopy users authorized keys on the secondary cluster member appliance.
  • When upgrading a clustered Tanium Server instance, it is highly recommended to check database cluster status, to ensure functionality, prior to upgrade.
  • It is highly recommended to configure the tanremote iDrac user and verify virtual console access before performing upgrade
