Anomalous Software detection
Asset now includes an Anomalous Software page that identifies software on endpoints that is atypical, unauthorized, or carries an elevated risk profile. Detected applications are continuously analyzed and assigned a risk level (High, Moderate, or Low) along with a classification that explains why the software was flagged. Classifications include Data Exfiltration, Remote Access, Entertainment, Security, AI Tools, No Risk, Unknown and Other.
- When new anomalous software is detected, a Guide notification appears in the Tanium Console with the total count of anomalous applications and the most recently detected items. Clicking Review Software in the notification opens the Anomalous Software page directly.
- The Anomalous Software page has High Risk and Moderate & Low Risk sections, allowing administrators to prioritize triage.
- Each row displays the vendor, application name, number of anomalous installations, first-detected date, classification, and a description of why the application was flagged.
- Selecting an application reveals the specific endpoints where it is installed.
- The Anomaly Classification filter narrows the view to a single category, such as Data Exfiltration or Remote Access.
- The Endpoints with High Anomalous Software Count view identifies individual endpoints with 4 or more High Risk anomalies.
- Administrators can mark one or more applications as approved, scoped to all computer groups or specific computer groups. Approved software is excluded from future detections and moved to the Approved Software grid.
Requirements
- Anomalous Software detection is available for Tanium Cloud customers on Windows and macOS endpoints.
- Tanium AI Features and Tanium Ask must be enabled in platform settings.
- Required permissions: Token - Use (Tanium Guide); Asset Report read and Asset Configuration Item write (Tanium Asset).

Legacy Asset Sensor Deprecation
Overview
As part of Tanium’s ongoing sensor modernization initiative, several Legacy Asset Sensors have been deprecated and superseded by Tanium Platform Core Sensors.
Data collection for these sensors was migrated to Core Sensors in August 2023, and the Legacy Asset Sensors were formally marked Deprecated in July 2025. While the deprecated sensors currently continue to return data, they will soon stop returning values and instead display informational messaging directing users to migrate to the recommended Core Sensors.
Timeline and Impact
- August 2023 – Data collection migrated from Legacy Asset Sensors to Tanium Platform Core Sensors.
- July 2025 – Legacy Asset Sensors formally marked as Deprecated.
- May 2026 – Deprecated sensors will no longer return data and will display migration messaging only.
- September 2026 – Deprecated sensors will be fully purged from Tanium Asset.
- SAR 2026H2 (On-Premises) – Deprecated sensors will be removed from on-premises installations of Tanium Asset.
Required Customer Action
To avoid data loss or reporting disruptions, customers should identify any usage of deprecated Asset Sensors and migrate all queries, reports, dashboards, and integrations to the corresponding Tanium Platform Core Sensors by May 2026.

SBOM to SIU Product Associations
- Newly added to Asset where SBOM is also licensed and enabled, users can now see SBOM Package/Library to SIU Installed Products associations on Windows and MAC endpoints.
- What does this mean?
- When both Asset SIU and SBOM are enabled, you will now be able to see associations between Packages/Libraries and Installed Products.
- Because Asset SIU now shows usage for all Products regardless of SIU Tracking selection, you can assume that the associated Packages/Libraries are also in use.
- How does this work?
- Asset SIU tracks the paths to the Products. SBOM tracks the paths to the Packages/Libraries. Software Manager then creates the associations where there are shared paths between the Products and Packages/Libraries.
- In Asset SIU Products, users can drill down into the Product Versions and by clicking on the Version number. Users are taken to a live question to all endpoints that returns all the Packages/Libraries in the shared Product installation path.
- In Asset SBOM Libraries users can click on the SBOM CPE and like Products a live question is sent to all endpoints to return all Products that have a common path to the Library paths.

Asset Software Usage and Inventory Improvements
- What has changed in Asset Software Usage and Inventory?
- Asset SIU Installed Products sensor enhanced to return Used as T/F values for all products regardless of Tracking status in Asset. No longer do you need to enable Tracking for every product to see if there is Usage.
- Used is returned as T (true) if there is a Last Used date for the Product that is within the last 90 calendar days. If not then the default value of F(false) is returned.
- Asset SIU User Interface Enhancements.
- Now with the changes to the Asset SIU Installed Products sensor, every Product in the Software Inventory and Usage console will now show counts for Used / Unused. No longer does the Asset Operator need to enable Tracking in order to see if a Product is used in their environment.
- Software Inventory and Usage the Products workbenches now have an Expand details function that is a Live Interact Question for the selected Product and does not require the Product to be tracked by Asset. Values returned are;
- Version (If the endpoint had multiple versions over time you will see every installed version.)
- First Seen (The date that SIU first discovered the Product on the endpoint. Over time, this will represent the date that the Product was Installed or Upgraded.)
- Removed Date (The date that SIU has determined that the Product was removed from the endpoint. Missing dates are expected if the Product is still installed.)
- First Used (The date that SIU first observed usage for the Product, by Version)
- Last Used (The most recent date that SIU observed usage for the Product, by Version.)
- Usage Bucket (The Usage over time that SIU recorded for the Product over a 90 day period, by Version)
- Asset SIU Installed Products sensor enhanced to return Used as T/F values for all products regardless of Tracking status in Asset. No longer do you need to enable Tracking for every product to see if there is Usage.
- What does this all mean for the Asset Operators?
- No longer do you have to enable Tracking for every Product on your endpoints. You can now see actual Product usage across your entire landscape.
- With a simple click of the mouse you can see extended details as well as Product Version history on your endpoints without the need to build complicated Interact queries.
- You can now focus Asset Application Usage Tracking to those products that have CapEx implications to reduce your licensed Software spend.

Asset File Evidence
- What is Asset File Evidence?
- Asset File Evidence is a file-based data collection process from endpoints that has been part of the Asset integration to Flexera. With this release, the process has been upgraded to now use index-cx to collect this information.
- What data is collected by Asset File Evidence?
- When an Asset File Evidence Profile is created Asset instructs index-cx to start collecting evidence of the following files by extension:
- .exe
- .sys
- .*sys2
- .*wtag
- .*ptag
- .lax
- .*dtag
- .sig
- When an Asset File Evidence Profile is created Asset instructs index-cx to start collecting evidence of the following files by extension:
Note: If other modules already collect these files, you will see results in the Asset File Evidence sensor even if not specifically targeted by the Asset File Evidence Profile.
- What data elements (attributes) are collected for these files?
- For all Windows, MAC and Linux Operating Systems
- File Path
- File Name
- File Size
- Extended: For Windows Operating Systems ONLY and defined in the Asset File Evidence Profile
- File Version
- Product Name
- Product Version
- Company
- Description

- For all Windows, MAC and Linux Operating Systems
- Frequently Asked Questions
- Can I control what files are collected by Asset File Evidence?
- No. For this release, the Tanium team worked directly with Flexera to define file requirements for Windows, MAC and Linux endpoints
- Why do I see files in Asset File Evidence that are not targeted in the Asset File Evidence Profile?
- Because index-cx is a shared service by other Tanium Modules. It is possible that those modules have already tasked index-cx to collect this data and the Asset File Evidence sensor harvests that data based on the file extensions listed above.
- Why are the Extended Data details blank?
- The operating system is not Windows.
- The Windows endpoint is not defined in the targeting group of the profile.
- Can I control what files are collected by Asset File Evidence?

TDS Load Improvements
- For TDS Load enabled environments the Asset Primary Key that identifies a unique endpoint now mirrors TDS.
- EID (Endpoint ID) is now used for TDS Load Enabled environments vs the 2 of 3 match that has been used before TDS Loads.
- Computer Name, Computer ID and Endpoint Fingerprint are used for Saved Questions based Tanium Source loads.
- How will this affect potential duplicate endpoints in Asset?
- When TDS identifies a duplicate endpoint it will remove the endpoint from TDS and pass the removed EID to Asset.
- Asset will, at next load, remove those EIDs from Asset regardless of the Asset Purge rules.
- Manually deleted endpoints from TDS will still follow the Asset Purge rules.
- Date stamp updates for last_seen_at and last_seen_in_tds will now be updated during every Tanium Source run vs the original once a day update.

TDS / Differential Load
- What has changed in Asset?
- In earlier releases of Asset the method to collect Endpoint Data was completed by Tanium asking a number of Saved Question that were distributed over time for each Tanium source load. In this release Asset will move to gathering data from the Tanium Data Service cache rather than running multiple saved questions.
- What is Tanium Data Service (TDS)?
- For information about TDS and how it functions see: Managing Tanium Data Service
- Now when a user adds an Attribute in Asset the Asset Service will automatically register the Tanium Sensor in TDS for collection by Asset.
- What is Differential Load?
- Prior to this release whenever the Tanium source would run, all Endpoint Data would be collected and replaced in Asset regardless of any changes in the data. In essence every Tanium source load was a Full load. With this release Asset will only update Endpoint Data when there are changes in the data collected in TDS resulting in faster Tanium source load times.
- Maintenance Loads occur anytime "Reset Differential Load" is enabled. During a maintenance load, all data in Tanium Asset is completely refreshed from TDS. As a result, these loads will take longer to complete than the differential loads and can impact timestamps in Asset.
- Asset Administrators will have the ability to select a One-Time Full Load for the next pending Tanium source load.
- Will deleting an Endpoint from Asset change?
- Endpoints that are registered in TDS cannot be deleted from Asset either manually or via a Purge Report to prevent unnecessary data collection overhead. When the endpoint is no longer in TDS a user or the system can be deleted.
- Asset Stale Data Age functions are not changing. What will be seen is that because TDS retains data retention of 30 days if a user selects a retention period of less than 30 days and if the endpoint is still in TDS it will not be deleted from Asset
- In order to remove an endpoint from Asset you will need to first delete the endpoint from TDS at which point it will be eligible for deletion from Asset by the system automatically or manually by a user.
- To remove Endpoint Data from TDS refer to Purge Endpoint Data
- This release adds two new attributes to Asset that can be used to determine if an endpoint can be removed from Asset:
- Asset Is Managed: reports true if the endpoint exists in TDS. In order to remove the endpoint from Asset, this field must be false.
- Last Seen in TDS: the last time that Asset saw the endpoint in TDS. This timestamp will align with an hourly Asset import cycle or a TDS maintenance load.
- What can I expect with this new functionality?
- Depending on the amount of Endpoint Data collected you can expect a 5x to 10x performance improvement in Tanium source load times.
- The default Tanium source load occurs every hour and with this improvement Tanium source loads that typically took more than 1 hour to complete may now complete hourly.
- Note: The number of endpoints and the amount of attributes collected will affect load times. Once differential loads are enabled, load times may fluctuate based on the amount of data changed in the environment between loads.
- Prior to this release any new Endpoints needed to be online and reporting into Tanium at the time that the Asset General saved question is executed in order to be inventoried. With this improvement as long as the Endpoint's data is collected in TDS then Asset will inventory the Endpoint.
- Note: Endpoints that are registered in TDS cannot be deleted from Asset either manually or via a Purge Report to prevent unnecessary data collection overhead.
- Date Stamps in Asset
- Last Seen is the date that endpoint data is still active in TDS. You may see that an endpoint that has not registered in Tanium for several days will have a current date in Asset as a result.
- Updated Date is the date that a change in the endpoint was recorded in Asset. With the TDS / Differential loads if no underlying data for the endpoint changes this date will remain static until a change in TDS is recorded. If the Asset Administrator selects Reset Differential Load then the Updated Date will get updated if the endpoint is still registered in TDS.
