Tanium Trends 1.2.2.0003

Release Date: April 3, 2018

Bug Fixes / Improvements

  • Increases the maximum number of open files on Tanium Linux appliances to resolve Elasticsearch "too many open files" errors.
    • When the problem occurs, new data will no longer be stored in Trends. Trend's Connect connections run logs will report failure to write to Elasticsearch.
    • The time to encounter the error is a function of time, the number of data sources, and amount of data per data source.
      • Every month, new files are created for each data source.
        • The number of files per month is determined by the amount of data source data, which is a function of the number of data source rows (max 1000 rows per connection run) times row size times the Trend's Connect connection run frequency.
      • It took a year for the problem to manifest on a system configured with the default gallery and daily Connect connection run frequency.
    • The fix increases the maximum number of open files to 65535 from the default 4096.
