Release Notes Tanium Default Computer Groups (Version 1.0)
Thank you for choosing Tanium. This article documents changes between releases of Default Computer Groups.
Description
This content creates common Computer Groups used in organizations. When you first log into the Tanium Console after a fresh installation of the Tanium Server, the server automatically imports a list of computer groups. After initial installation, this can be re-imported from the Solutions page. The computer groups all function as both regular Computer Groups (Management Rights Groups) and Filter Groups. The groups are assigned to the Default Filter Groups content set.
For a listing of these Default Computer Groups, see the documentation page: Default Computer Groups
Default Computer Groups 1.0.8.0004
Release Date: Aug 30, 2022
Note: Importing this version will update the id for some groups that have fixes. This may cause some deployments to need re-creation if relying on the old definition of the Computer Group. To avoid altering these existing groups, on the Import screen, choose the "Skip" option instead of the default "Overwrite" option before completing the import. The Computer Groups that have updates in this release are as follows: "All Laptops" and the various "All Windows 10 Release xxxx" groups. The Windows 10 groups were including Windows 11 endpoints as well, so they are refined now to exclude Windows 11. The "All Windows 10 Release xxxx" groups have all been updated to resolve this.
New computer groups:
- All Mac Laptops
- All Windows Laptops
- All Red Hat 5
- All Solaris 10
- All Solaris 11
- All Ubuntu 22
- All Windows 11 release 21H2
- All Windows 11 Release 22H2
- All MacOS 13
Updated computer groups:
- All Laptops - Already existed, but is updated to include MacBooks.
- All Windows 10 release <xxxx> - Was pulling in Windows 11 machines, so targeting is improved on this computer group.
Other "Windows 10" groups that targeted Windows 11 releases were also updated to ensure only Windows 10 versions are returned. The full list of updated "All Windows 10 Release xxxx" groups is:

For 7.4 customers that have already imported Default Computer Groups (version 1.0.0.0021), the import of the newer solution will not overwrite existing groups. To update the existing computer groups for Red Hat and Ubuntu, those groups need to be deleted and then the import of this solution will re-create the groups.
- Added Ubuntu Groups: "All Ubuntu 14" and "All Ubuntu 20"
- Fixed filter on existing Ubuntu groups
- Added computer groups for Oracle Linux: "All Oracle", "Oracle 6", "Oracle 7", and "Oracle 8"
- Added Amazon Linux groups: "All Amazon" and "All Amazon Linux 2"
- Import will now show a solution version on the Solutions page.
- Removed the "All Computers" and "No Computers" from the Default Computer Groups because those groups are created with installation of the Tanium Server.
- Improved filter for Red Hat groups to use a regex that catches all systems.
