Thank you for choosing Tanium. This article documents changes between releases of Tanium Map.

Important Notes

Map 3 is a complete rewrite of the Map module. There is no direct upgrade from Map 2 versions. Map 2 must be uninstalled and clients cleaned before installing Map 3.

Tanium Map 3.0.13.0003

Release Date: June 30, 2020

Enhancements

  • Map 3.0 is a nearly complete rewrite of the Map module
  • Completely new application map design. The new maps are intended to be self-describing and easily convey application service structure.
    • Nodes represent application components, not endpoints
    • Application clients are represented as a single node
    • Application component clusters are represented as a single node
    • Connections to services without Map installed are shown as connections to inferred nodes.
  • Completely new application discovery algorithm. Map now finds application service entry points in the environment and, when selected, discovers downstream dependencies from there.
    • Default entry point discovery includes processes with connections in to ports 80, 443, 17472, 17473
  • Completely new endpoint map design
    • Selected endpoint shown in map with all TCP-connected processes.
    • Client processes (connections into endpoint) shown to left of endpoint
    • Server processes (connections out from endpoint) shown to right of endpoint
  • Default Tanium Map action group is for Linux and Windows Servers only.
  • All new Map Home page with most workflows handled right on the page.

Known Issues

  • Map can't properly discover IIS dependencies, or any other application that uses non-TCP IPC to communicate between processes on the same machine. It will see the connections into the first process (e.g. Service in the case of IIS), but can't see the outgoing connections.

Supported Tanium Platforms

  • Tanium Server 7.2, 7.3, 7.4
