Release Notes Map (Version 2.0)

Thank you for choosing Tanium. This article documents changes between releases of Tanium Map.

Important Note

The releases of Tanium Threat Response 2.0, Integrity Monitor 2.0, and Map 2.0 all include a significant update to the Client Recorder Extension. This upgrade does not require that all three products be updated at the same time, but when more than one impacted product is deployed to an endpoint, conditional logic is applied to determine whether to upgrade the recorder component from 1.x to 2.0 versions. Please consult your Technical Account Manager to better understand how to best plan for your deployments if you have more than one impacted product installed.

Tanium Map 2.0.4.0003

Bug Fixes

• Fixes a previous known issue that could cause automatic configuration of Map to time out.

Known Issues

• The Map Read Only role currently has a bug that prevents maps from being viewed if they are not already cached by a different user with the same computer groups access. There is no escalation of privileges with this bug.

Tanium Map 2.0.3.0009

Enhancements

• Map will now begin the initialization process on common module import for Tanium Core Platform 7.4.2 or later.

  • Adds a separate process for client extensions (TaniumCX or TaniumCX.exe), running under the client.
    • This will require new anti-virus exclusions. Work with your TAM to ensure these are set up properly.
    • These changes were made to make the client extensions more robust, supportable, and allow more functionality than previously possible.
    • Note: Installing this version of Tanium Client Extensions on an endpoint running Threat Response 2.2 or lower may cause issues with process exclusions. Please work with your TAM if you think this may impact you.
• Update Content Distribute Tools (dist tools) from 1.2.1 to 1.3.2
• Update Core Python (core-python) from 1.2.0.2 to 1.3.0.44
  • Tanium Python Version (2.7): 1.3.0.44
  • Tanium Python Version (3.8): 1.3.0.44
• Update Node from 10.15.2 to 12.14.1

Bug Fixes

• Fixes a python import error for 7.4 clients

Known Issues

• The Map Read Only role currently has a bug that prevents maps from being viewed if they are not already cached by a different user with the same computer groups access. There is no escalation of privileges with this bug.
• In some situations, the automatic configuration of Map with default settings times out. The installation has not failed. You can manually configure Map in the workbench to set up the service account and action group. This issue will be addressed in the next release of Map.

Tanium Map 2.0.2.0013

• This release adds support for the 7.4 version of the Tanium Client, including updates to the python runtime version and supporting libraries.

  • This is the same version of core-python that is being released in the IC-Python solution

• Adds new static Map - Disable Event Recording [Windows-Linux-Mac] and Map - Enable Event Recording [Windows-Linux-Mac] packages for manually disabling and re-enabling event recording, respectively, on endpoints with Map tools installed. These packages are expected to only be used to help alleviate critical issues and using them will affect the functionality of the Map product.

  • Includes Client Recorder Extension 2.0 integration support.
