Release Notes Initial Content - Python (Version 3.4)

Introduction

Initial Content: Python is a freely available Tanium solution that enables installing Python on endpoints via ECF without other dependencies. It adds a few Python-related utility sensors including tooling to help customers safely remove Tanium Python 2.7. It is also partly redundant in 2022, since Core Content and other solutions still install Python on most endpoints.

Important

Python now distributes Initial Content using ECF. To configure the Initial Content - Python Solution to automate tooling updates, a Tanium Administrator must complete a one-time-only configuration by selecting the targeting for an Action Group associated with Initial Content - Python. These Action Groups can be found under Administration > Shared Services > Endpoint Configuration, on the Content-Only Solutions tab.

To make this Action Group configuration change:

  • Identify the Content-Only Solution to change.
  • Go to Administration > Actions > Action Groups.
  • Select the Initial Content - Python Action Group to change and click into it.
    • Note: The Action Group can still show that one Computer Group is selected, because “No Computers” is a Computer Group.
  • Change the Action Group’s selection to the “All Computers” Computer Group, or otherwise as desired.

Return to Endpoint Configuration’s Content-Only Solutions tab again to ensure the Initial Content - Python Action Group is addressed. The status indicator should update immediately, confirming that the necessary changes have been made.
