Release Notes Health Check Service (Version 1.8)
Tanium Health Check Service 1.8.1.0000
Release Date: June 9, 2020
New Features
- Includes TPAN2 2.2.1
- Tanium Operational Trends Extraction System (TOTES)
- Adds data gathering for question and sensor usage, and sensor runtime statistics.
- If data sharing is enabled for the license, anonymized question usage data is collected for analysis.
- This data helps Tanium better understand how customers are using the platform and helps Tanium focus attention on the most widely-used features and functionality.
- Additionally, in the case that an issue is discovered with content that is published by Tanium, this data helps to ensure affected customers get updated content faster.
- Note: The data that is sent to Tanium contains sensor names only when Tanium is sure that they are sensors that are provided by Tanium, and never contains the text of any question or any filter strings.
- Adds data gathering for question and sensor usage, and sensor runtime statistics.
- Client Tracking
- Health Check now installs a saved question (Health Check - Client Tracking) and two sensors (Health Check - System UUID and Health Check - Computer Serial Number) during import.
- This saved question’s recent results are evaluated by TPAN when it runs, and are archived into a database for later reference.
- This data allows TPAN to chart, with greater accuracy, the trend of client deployments over time, helping customers spot large swings in client count (example: losing or gaining management of a large number of clients), and helping to identify and account for the churn produced by VDI environments where clients are ephemeral and non-persistent.
- Health Check now installs a saved question (Health Check - Client Tracking) and two sensors (Health Check - System UUID and Health Check - Computer Serial Number) during import.
Enhancements
- Adds client tracking info to sanitized data bundle
- Collects sanitized TOTES and sensor stats data
- Enforces a maximum sanitized data size and raises finding if exceeded
- Clarified wording on finding for mismatched tanium.pub key
- Excludes mr_* groups from negative targeting findings
Resolved Issues
- Corrected a parsing error when reading client counts from saved info files
- Ensured client count graphs do not switch to scientific notation above 500,000 endpoints
- Corrected false-positive for finding regarding the use of find.exe
- Corrected data-handling for saved questions that are stored by TPAN
- Corrected several typos in warning messages
