Tanium Asset 1.3.0.0213

Release Date: June 5, 2018

Feature Improvements

  • Updated user interface with color scheme changes and layout improvements. Changes include: redesigned attribute selection screen, re-organization of the Inventory Management menu to include sources and destinations, and an update of the top rail menu items.
  • Introduced the Query Engine v2 (Preview). In Available to be selected in the top rail, the v2 preview query engine is a grounds up new query engine that incorporates use of inner joins compare to outer joins to improve report for more complex report. To enable the v2 query engine, you must select it in the Advanced Settings of the top rail menu.
  • Added Export All to save reports to CSV format. All reports now have an Export All icon at the top right of the report results to download the report to a CSV file.
  • Updated the AD User Details content to take advantage of the latest improvements for Active Directory lookup.
  • Added Flexera as a destination. Use the existing Tanium Client on your endpoints to populate information in Flexera FlexNet Manager Suite (FNMS) through a SQL database. After you provide the credentials to the SQL database, Asset configures all the necessary sensors, reports, and connections in Tanium Connect to populate the Flexera integration database.
  • Added external database source. Enhance the Asset database with external data from a MSSQL database. Define the relationship, select the attributes, and the external data will be updated on a scheduled basis.

  • Fixed issue that might prevent load from completing with error message, "Failed to create column, tables can have at most 1600 columns".
  • Fixed issue that might prevent service from starting correctly after upgrading.
  • Fixed issue that might allow reference items to continue to grow; causing the service to respond slowly.
  • Fixed problems caused by adding columns with a name "id", sensors with duplicate column names, and multiple sensors with the same column names.
  • Fixed issue that caused columns to be removed / added each time a load was performed; ultimately reaching the limit on the number of columns (existing or deleted) allowed by the database.
  • Fixed issue when loading Tanium data, received error: "SOAP Processing Exception: class SOAPSnapshotNotFound". NOTE: There may be other instances where this error could occur that are not related to this fix.

  • Fixed issues with the installation and startup sequence to minimize installation and service start issues.
  • Fixed issue that may cause import to fail intermittently with error: "duplicate key value violates unique constraint".
  • Fixed several issues that may cause loads to fail periodically.
  • Fixed issue with scheduled jobs being unavailable for five minutes following service restart. Now jobs are available immediately following service restart.
  • Fixed issue when clicking Run Now where status may continue to show idle for several seconds before changing to "running".
  • Fixed issue where customer could not add multiple columns with the same display name. Sensors with the duplicate column names will not be available to be added to Asset.
  • Fixed an issue where the Asset service might run out of file handles when running on TanOS.
  • Fixed issue where "non-admin" users receive "Error Initializing" popup error in console when going to home page.
  • Fixed issues with ServiceNow destination when syncing large number of company and software titles where duplicate instances may have been displayed in console. Contact your TAM if you have duplicate software instances that need to be cleaned up from your ServiceNow instance.

Known Issues and Workarounds

  • The Asset Installed Applications sensor for Mac will return "Google" for installed chrome extensions. This is the way that Apple reports the vendor.
  • When running multiple "Asset Report" source connections in connect, the connection run may fail with SSL related errors. This has been experienced in environments with users on Tanium Server version 7.0 and 7.1 with less than four cores.
  • A user may experience duplicate rows being exported via Connect when using "Asset Report" as a source. This only occurs with the v1 Query Engine and it is recommended that the user use the v2 query engine.
  • A users may get an error when creating a report with unrelated tables and using the v2 Query Engine. This error is intentional and will prevent users from creating report results that may be too large and / or nonsensical.
